Assignment 16 Research and Inspiration

Inspiration
I like the idea of the tree shape. It guides your eye through the different products.

I like how this one is plan, but the use of depth and pictures makes it more interesting. 

I like this design, because it uses more illustrations, which are more appealing to the eye, than type to relay the message. 


This design draws the viewer's eye in to the center. Like the one before, I like this one also, because of the use of images. The message comes across more clear and more quickly this way.

What was the basis of the Roman uppercase alphabet?
a variant of the greek alphabet


What were the purposes of the formal and informal styles of lettering?
formal: manuscripts and documents
informal: letters and routine types of writing




Why is the Roman alphabet the most widely used and what contributions did it make?
serifs, aligned in rows

From where did serifs originate?
stonesman added little hooks to the tips of the letters to prevent the chisel from slipping

When and where did lowercase, or minuscule, letters develop?
Latin script/ 18th century

What is a ligature and why were they utilized?
occurs when two or more graphemes are joined as a single glyph/ replace cursive

the consonants were adapted as vowels

Name several similarities and differences between the Greek and modern English alphabets?similarities: uppercase and lowercase, font, serifs
differences: it was shorter, different letters

Assignment 15

Illuminated Manuscript:
 is a manuscript in which the text is supplemented by the addition of decoration, such as decorated initials, borders (marginalia) and miniature illustrations.


Inspiration: 
I like the use of colors, ad the way the border and "D" tie in together.

I like the background. Also, I like how there is a lot going on but not too much. 

I like the idea of the vines coming from the letter.
